Over the years I have heard a lot wonderful things about Croatia, particularly from a good friend who was born near Trieste.Other friends had cruised along the coast but it made more sense to experience it by land. We started in Zagreb, the capital, often called the garden city, which immediately became obvious. We flew to Dubrovnik, a marvelous walled city on the coast, visited a nearby island devoted to horticulture and then proceeded to work our way west by bus, stopping in little towns.
We spent several days exploring the mountainous island of Hvar, staying at gorgeous waterfront hotel in carless Hvar city. A stop in Split and on to Pula, enjoying the lovely scenery and old towns. The food was Mediterranean, wine and beer, lots of fish. Ended with two days in Venice, always uniqe, but very hot. A great trip, just 14 of us. Go if you can.
